At 570 Warren Street in Boston, our team transformed a historic halfway home into 16 affordable Single Room Occupancy units, creating supportive housing while preserving the building’s historic character.
Designed by Joy St Design, the adaptive reuse project included a full exterior envelope renovation, first-floor accessibility upgrades, selective interior reconfiguration, and complete modernization of MEP systems. Site work featured new utilities, paving, landscaping, and a stormwater infiltration system integrated into the historic setting.
CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS
The renovation uncovered significant structural decay, requiring new beams, foundation stabilization, and beam realignment. Aging infrastructure demanded a full replacement of the water and waste systems, while ledge across most of the site complicated stormwater installation.
Through careful coordination, the team reduced potential schedule impacts from four months to just two, delivering a historically sensitive, modernized building on time.
